Box etiquette

We pride our space on its cleanliness and beautiful equipment lining the walls. This is your space to play, learn and enjoy! This demands the same high level of respect as any Palace or sacred place.

Attitude

When you walk in the doors of Vanguard, leave behind any stress or worry and work in a positive mindset! A negative mindset will make you slower and less precise. A positive mindset will make you perform better period. It will lift those around you and give you the best 1 hour experience of your day.

Clap, cheer and support everyone, especially those still working when you have finished! Anything less is to cheat yourself of the experience, rob others of the gift of your presence and support as part of the Vanguard Fitness Community. We see each other as family and we are all here for the same reasons.

be early!

If you're not early, you’re late! Give yourself enough time to sign into Wodify, stretch or foam roll. Being late is unfair on coaches, and interrupts your fellow class members. Warm-ups are Important! They are written to prepare your body for what's to come.

Clean up

Put away all your equipment, stack the Boxes, Dumbbells, Kettlebells neatly, put the bars back in the racks and stack the Plates in correct order and neatly. If you rip/tear/bleed clean the affected equipment down thoroughly! Pick up your used tape, water bottles and sweaty clothes. Remember there are classes after yours.

respect equipment

Dropping Bars is ok when required with the larger bumper plates (10kg+). For safety reasons it needs to be with control as it's easy to skip a barbell sideways and into another member.  Do not drop ANYTHING on the blue turf!. Put things down gently. Dropping weights should be a necessity, If you're needing to drop a bar with 5kg plates maybe a little more rest is required. ALWAYS keep your weights under control including Dumbbells and NEVER drop an empty barbell. Our equipment (your equipment) was expensive so please respect it.

be honest

No one cares what your score was. Everyone cares if you cheat. CrossFit is hard work, we are all working along side of each other with a supportive attitude doing our best. Not counting reps is cheating yourself of improvement and also not in the spirit of Vanguard and our attitude towards life!.

Chalk

Counting rounds and reps during a workout can become hard if the workout is long. At Vanguard we have mini whiteboards and whiteboard markers for the purpose of helping you keep track of rounds, reps, weight etc. Chalk is for your hands, not marking your reps on the floor!

Chalk buckets at Vanguard are of a decent size, this allows you to chalk your hands over the chalk bucket to minimise chalk spreading out onto the floor.

Never rub chalk directly onto the barbells!
